artist Samantha Gallagher Artist's Statement:
"I have always been enraptured by nature and the outdoors. Most of my inspiration comes from plants, insects and ecosystems I've seen at home or while traveling to tropical destinations.

I usually work directly from photographs I've taken. Occasionally I have subject matter I want to paint but no photos from which to work, and I will come up with my composition through research and sketches. I strive to show realism in my work, using the same bright colors I see in nature. I hope by illustrating beauty found in the natural world, viewers will feel inspired to take their own steps toward nature conservation.

I work with acrylic paint on canvas and colored pencils on fine art paper."

Artist Bio:
Samantha grew up in southern Maryland and attended college at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. While living in Florida, she was exposed to the tropical flora and fauna of the region and enjoyed painting the local plants and flowers during breaks from class. Using the skills she learned in design, technique, and color theory under Don Martin at Flagler, Samantha began to combine her love of nature and her art.

After graduating in 2000 with a degree in Graphic Design, Samantha returned to Maryland and began working in the 3D graphics industry. She continued to create paintings in her spare time. She currently uses her evenings and weekends to create her art and run her art business. During the summer, she attends local art festivals on some weekends.

Since Samantha's inspiration comes almost entirely from nature, she is working to make her artwork and art business eco-friendly. She orders business cards and some greeting cards on recycled paper from GreenerPrinter.com. Her other greeting cards are printed on Neenah Environment papers. She also offers artwork on mousepads which are made from recycled tire rubber. Samantha is making other eco-friendly changes as well, such as 100% post-consumer content envelopes for greeting cards and biodegradable clear plastic bags for her prints.
